Daisy Jones & the Six

I had no intention of watching Daisy Jones & the Six. I was only peripherally aware of it. However, finding myself one evening needing something lighter than the murder mystery docuseries I had been watching, I decided to give Ms. Daisy Jones a chance. I’ll just watch an episode and see what I think. Well, one episode quickly turned into six, then ten after all was said and done.

The show follows the rise and fall of a fictional 1970s band. Beginning with the brilliant opening sequence—set to Patti Smith’s Dancing Barefoot—I knew I was in for something special. The storytelling breathes. The casting is on point. Riley Keough and Sam Claflin, in particular, inhabit their characters so completely that when watching them during interviews to promote the show, I had to remind myself they played the two leads. 

My awe of Daisy Jones & the Six grew upon learning that the actors who portray the band members spent months learning to sing and play their instruments, and in doing so, became an actual band. They even recorded an album…that’s topping the charts. And not the fictional charts. It’s a legitimately great album that my neighbors have no doubt heard me sing along to as I dance around my living room.

Up next for me is reading the bestselling book on which the show is based, followed by a rewatch of the show and more sing alongs. My neighbors will be thrilled.

Middle Aged Minx

One of my most treasured weekend rituals is picking up a pastry and coffee from my favorite bakery and coming home and watching a lineup of stylish YouTube vloggers—my virtual gal pals, if you will.

A recent addition to my YouTube lineup is Jo Good’s channel, Middle Aged Minx. Jo takes me along on her adventures throughout her fashionable London neighborhood of Marylebone, her late night chats with Dave the Cabby as she heads home from hosting her BBC radio show, and her walks about town with her English bulldog sidekick, Myrtle. (Tell me you aren’t smiling upon reading that name!) 

Jo has great style, inside and out. I’d gladly borrow from her closet. But, what I most appreciate and admire about Jo is that she lives life and radiates authenticity and energy while doing so. She’s an inspiration and a reminder to make the most of this life we’re given, preferably with a cute canine by your side.
